What We’re Looking for in Artists:

Muse is seeking actors who are not only strong performers, but collaborative, self-sufficient artists excited to be part of the unique ecosystem of the Fringe. In addition to performance responsibilities, company members are expected to actively participate in daily flyering and audience engagement efforts, serving as ambassadors for the production throughout the festival. The schedule typically includes a performance every day, with one to two days off across the run, requiring stamina, adaptability, and a positive, team-oriented spirit. Artists should be comfortable navigating a fast-paced, high-energy international environment, including travel, shared resources, and the dynamic, immersive nature of Fringe life.

All interested performers are encouraged to submit.

Synopsis:

A fast-paced, ensemble musical in which Shakespeare’s characters come to life and compete for the chance to be published, blurring the line between creator and creation.

Seeking:

[SHAKESPEARE] Male identifying character, 20s, Any Race/Ethnicity. The one and only. Artistically frustrated. Charming but insecure. Loves Anne almost as much as the work. Pop/rock bari-tenor. Vocal inspiration: Shawn Mendes.

[ANNE & THE ASSASSIN] Female identifying character, 20s, Any Race/Ethnicity. Shakespeare’s wife and biggest supporter—the heart of the show. Also plays a cold-blooded assassin. Sings simply and from the heart. Pop belt to F5. Vocal inspiration: Rachel Zegler and Madison Beer.

[BEATRICE] Female identifying character, 20s, Any Race/Ethnicity. Shakespeare’s comic voice. Quick-witted, using humor to mask her intelligence, but wants to be taken seriously. Pop belt to C5. Vocal inspiration: Adele.

[CLEOPATRA] Female identifying character, 30s, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or North African. The queen of Egypt. Knows the power of her sexuality. Seductive and commanding. Alto pop belt.

[JULIET] Female identifying character, 20s, Any Race/Ethnicity. In love with Romeo. Our ingénue—sweet and naïve. Intimate pop belt to D5. Vocal inspiration: Lizzy McAlpine.

[KING LEAR] Male identifying character, 40s, Any Race/Ethnicity. A once-powerful king. World-weary, carrying the weight of past mistakes. Bari-tenor.

[MACBETH] Male identifying character, 40s, Any Race/Ethnicity. The best murderer. Ambitious to a fault. Volatile, dangerous, and driven by hubris. Bari-tenor.

[LADY MACBETH] Female identifying character, 40s, Any Race/Ethnicity. The power behind the throne. Strategic, persuasive, always in control. Rock belt to E5. Vocal inspiration: Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne.

[PORTIA] Female identifying character, 20s, Any Race/Ethnicity. The voice of mercy. Leads with empathy and reason. Grounded and steady. Clear pop belt to D5. Vocal inspiration: Rachel Zegler and Reneé Rapp.

[PUCK] All gender identities and expressions, 20s but ageless, Any Race/Ethnicity. A magical trickster. Stirs the pot and delights in chaos. Ability to play flute or recorder a plus. Any vocal type.

To Submit:

Choose the character that feels like the best fit for you, and prepare Side #1 and the Song for that character (if they have one) using the materials on the link below.

You’ll need to record three (or four) separate videos:

1. Slate

Include your name, height, and base location.

Confirm you are over 18 and have a valid U.S. passport.

End with a full body pan.

2. Side #1

Perform the provided side. If there are multiple sides, you only need to tape Side #1 for now. The others are for callbacks.

3. Song

If your character has a song, include it, along with one additional brief cut of your own (pop, rock, or contemporary musical theatre). If not, just submit one brief cut of a pop, rock, or contemporary musical theatre song.

Please upload each video as a separate clip and label them clearly.

You can also check out the EP (5 songs from the show) on Spotify or wherever you stream music. We urge you to “make it your own”. Please use the recorded version of the songs as a launchpad. We are not looking for anyone to imitate or copy the vocals as recorded. Please bring your own talents, nuance and vibrancy to these songs.
